questioning the status quo of watches for the visually impaired

A disruptive innovation, Braille-o-watch is a sleek and user friendly watch that uses a digital tactile dial with the numbers in Braille.

How does it work?

Electro-active polymers, are polymers that exhibit a change in size or shape when stimulated by an electric field.

Braille-o-watch uses EAP activated by an electric circuit to continuously change the time shown on the dial so that it acts as a continuous digital analog but with actually using braille letters.

Ergonomics

  • The watch has a magnetic belt that will snap once the magnets are in proximity avoiding the cumbersome job of putting a looped strap on.
  • In order to denote the orientation of the dial, there is a smooth and sleek raised line that runs along the dial so that the wearer will know.
